Jalen Santoy – “Doors of Perception”

Jalen Santoy’s latest release, “Doors of Perception,” continues his long line of raw lyrical explorations into a culture torn apart by social injustices.  Making music since the age of 15, the Charlotte-raised, L.A.-based rapper and songwriter has one EP to date, Charlie Eastern, which was named after the rap group founded by his late cousin, a victim of police brutality.  Having first hand experience with how inequity can play out in violent ways, Santoy overlays his acerbic message onto a shifting soundscape of soothing strings which gives way to a more frenetic flute-based beat, the life of survival on full display.
